The purpose of the seminar was to provide information on mandatory and optional tasks of the certification process for offshore substations according to DNV-OS-J201. This standard contributes to the process of configuring substations with the aim of minimizing risks for personnel to the lowest level possible.

In addition, the seminar featured presentations on requirements and best practice for HVDC and HVAC (high-voltage direct/alternating current) substations, and a review of a broad range of platform concepts, including jacket, jack up, monopile and floating platforms. Also addressed was fire protection, access and transfer, health, safety and environmental risk management.

While DNV has been active in this industry for years, the pace of development in wind energy has created increased demand for improved risk management services.

Additional training
ABB’s newly established offshore wind connections group engaged DNV to provide training on the mandatory and optional tasks of the certification process for offshore substations according to DNV-OS-J201. For AC and DC substations, ABB works within maintainability, electrical safety, fire safety, marine operations, platform concept design & construction and installation offshore.
