The Galileo satellite navigation system - the European counterpart to the US Global Positioning System GPS - is at its developing stage using the utmost of technology. DNV is currently chosen to study a Galileo certification regime.

Deutsche Flugsicherung (DFS) contracted DNV to conduct a safety assessment on a proposed option for optimising separation on final approach into Frankfurt Main Airport. The proposal was for a new concept that deviated from ICAO accepted standards.

Boeing’s commitment to environmental performance gets new wings. The launch of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, an environmentally progressive airplane programme, and customer curiosity about Boeing’s internal environmental efforts led the company to pursue ISO 14001 certification.

Risk Based Certification(TM) is DNV's new way of delivering accredited management system certification. It means focusing audits on identified risk areas in addition to the regular requirements. "We are the fist to take steps towards tailor made certification audits and reporting in the world," says Henrik Madsen, COO of DNV Certification.
Torp airport is the first in Norway to be certified to ISO 14001. ‘To the aviation industry in Norway, this may serve as a signal for take-off,’ says Norwegian Environment Minister Børge Brende. He firmly believes that environmental improvement is an economic and competitive opportunity, and that ISO 14001 can be an important element in business survival.
Far from the sounds of shipping or the aromas of the process industry – two of DNV’s traditional areas of activity – its offices in Toulouse, southern France, are home to a dedicated team of aerospace engineers and software specialists. Here, in one of the major centres of Europe’s space industry, DNV is developing certification schemes for the next generation of satellite-based navigation systems, the European Space Agency’s GALILEO.

Airline safety is, amongst other factors, dependent the ability to assess and prioritise risk factors. DNV has, in co-operation with Avinor and four airline companies, developed a risk assessment model for quantifying aircraft hull loss probability during the landing and take-off operations at airport.

Avinor is responsible for the operation of 46 airport in Norway as well as for providing the country’s Air Traffic Management (ATM) services. As a part of the cost-cutting programme “Take-Off-05”, Avinor commissioned DNV to conduct an independent evaluation of consequences to flight and employee safety. The result from this work have helped Avinor in safely reducing costs.
